A pixel-art cat in a side pane that reacts to your real session, with a kitten crew for subagents, XP and missions, a session meter and a live file tree.

Notice

Mods need Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, and their API can change between releases without notice. It installs from its own repository's marketplace, not from Anthropic's.

What it does

Edit, Write and NotebookEdit send Mochi to the desk to type, then a jump with a green check or a red cross when the edit succeeds or fails. Bash gets a hammer, or a magnifier for read-only commands such as rg, ls and git status. A failed command lets a bug scuttle in, and the next passing command squashes it. When Claude hands the turn back, Mochi waves and the HUD shows how long the turn took.

Between tasks Mochi looks around, strolls, sips coffee, reads, stretches and eventually naps. The window shows the real sky for your local time.

How it works

tool.call reacts to Edit, Write, NotebookEdit, Bash, Read, WebSearch, WebFetch and MCP tools, and passes every call on unchanged; other tools go straight through. agent.spawn adds a kitten for each subagent. turn.start and turn.complete track turns, XP and missions. session.measure feeds the session meter. command.run answers /mascot and /mochi. session.start loads saved progress, registers the commands and opens the pane, ui.render draws it, and session.end resets the session's figures.

The file tree runs git status, git diff --numstat and git branch in the project by argument list, never through a shell, and only for files inside the project. Clicking a file runs your windowed editor with that file's path, also without a shell. The mod makes no network requests. Level, XP, outfit, settings, mood, energy and badges persist in the plugin store; the journal, missions, meter and the tree's touched files reset every session.

Set up

Inside Claude Code, add the marketplace and install the mod. The pane opens on its own when a session starts; run /mascot to open it again. Focus the pane and press p to pet, f to feed, d to dance, o for the next outfit, s for sound and t for the file tree.

New releases bump the plugin's version. Run /plugin marketplace update mochi-crew to pick one up, or turn on auto-update for the mochi-crew marketplace in /plugin.

/plugin marketplace add joeVenner/mochi-crew

/plugin install mochi-crew@mochi-crew

Commands

Run /mascot to open the pane; /mochi works too, for every command. /mascot journal lists this session's turns, edits, commands, fixes and files. /mascot missions and /mascot achievements show goals and badges. /mascot meter prints the full session meter with notes for your provider. /mascot files off hides the file tree. /mascot outfit takes classic, wizard, pirate, party, shades or crown, and /mascot sound on turns on 8-bit sound effects.
